_Formdrill

Fomdrill tools are made of a special carbide. Standard Formdrill tools are available from 1.8mm. up to 25.4mm.
(0.070" - 1.000") diameter Larger drill sizes are available on request.

Formdrill tools can be used in most ferrous and non-ferrous metals including mild steel, stainless steel, copper, brass and aluminum. In general, all malleable materials can be thermal drilled.

Formdrill can be used in material thickness ranging from 1.0mm. up to 12.0mm. (0.040" - 0.500")
depending on required hole size.

State of the art grinding technology ensures our tools are manufactured to the highest precision.

There are four types of standard formdrill tools: Short, Short/Flat, Long and Long/Flat:

_SHORT

Description

Schematic

Formdrill tool with short parallel sides (L5) behind the leading taper without cutters. This style will create a conical bushing with a collar.

Application

Used in round tubing, square tubing and sheet metal.

usAGE

Thin materials in combination with formtap. The initial tapered bushing guarantees 100% formed threads over
the complete length of the Formdrill bushing.
Bushing is straight (cylindrical) after tapping.

_SHORT/FLAT

Description

Formdrill tool with short parallel sides (L5) behind the leading taper with cutters. This style creates a conical bushing with a flat surface.

Application

Used in square tubing and sheet metal.

usAGE

_LONG

Description

Formdrill tool with longer parallel sides (L5) behind the leading taper without cutters, that creates a cylindrical bushing with a collar.

Schematic

Application

Used In round tubing, square tubing and sheet metal.

usAGE

Thicker material with formtap or with cutting taps.
The short version Formdrills would produce bushings that are too tapered for tapping.

_LONG/FLAT

Description

A formdrill tool with longer parallel sides (L5) behind the leading taper with cutters, that creates a cylindrical bushing with a flat surface.

Schematic

Application

In square tubing and sheet metal.

usAGE
